This recipe is from my Grandma- though I couldn’t find her recipe today so I worked from a recipe from Allrecipes.com. Barbecued Round Steak. I serve this over rice and with a veggie on the side.

Tonight, I made this on the stovetop- but in the past I have cooked it in the crockpot. Just brown in a skillet first, then place in a crockpot and cover with the remaining ingredients as the sauce. Cook on low for 8 hours.

BBQ Round Steak

2 lbs round steak, sliced into strips
2 Tbsp canola oil
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup cider vinegar
2 Tbsp. Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground mustard
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp pepper

Cook meat in oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, mix the remaining ingredients together in a bowl and stir together to make the sauce. When meat is browned pour the sauce over. Bring to a boil then turn to low and cook for 2 hours or longer. Check during cooking and add water as needed if it is getting too dry. I needed to add water two times today.

Serve over rice.

I’m Kelli

I built this corner of the internet after celiac entered our house and I realized I had to relearn how to cook from the ground up. Recipes I’d known by heart suddenly betrayed me, and my confidence in the kitchen disappeared overnight. Out of that season of crumbly experiments, small victories, and determination to make food that still felt like home, this site slowly grew. I wanted to share that journey with you so your table can feel normal, maybe even a little faster than mine did.
